Intriguing Things: Volume 8

With the exception of a couple week’s hiatus, I post Wednesdays about things that are on my mind and filling my life with ‘cool’, currently.

Like this, or this, for example.

Well, I thought life couldn’t get any better, but it has.

With newness and letting go of oldness comes beautiful and peculiar things which are intriguing me now.

Frida Kahlo

I’ve always been a bit of an art snob. I love poetry, art, music, and learning about my favorite artists. I’ve loved Frida Kahlo, ever since I walked into el MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires) in Buenos Aires in 2013, and saw her portraits hanging from the wall. I got shivers, up and down my spine, just like a former professor told me I would. “When you see Frida Kahlo’s paintings up close, you’ll be able to feel her energy from them, because she literally poured her soul into her work.”

And this is true.

Now, I’m reading “Frida Kahlo: a Biography”, and unearthing more and more about what made this woman so special. Check her out.

Keegan’s Ales

MM

In Kingston, there’s a magical place on St. James Street called Keegan’s Ales. As a craft beer drinker, I encourage anyone in the area, or an area where you can buy their brews, to check it out. My friends and I go every week, for happy hour, trivia or to see a live band.

I adore the Joe Mama’s Milk, a stout brewed with brown sugar, but my all-time favorite has to be Mother’s Milk, which Tommy, the owner, confided in me he named after a nickname the Irish have for Guinness. Oh, those Irish.

Sláinte !

Sunday

Next time I’m off on a Sunday will be this week, and it’s only my 2nd Sunday off in the whole winter season! I was working for a craft beer, chocolate and cheese cafe shop, on the side of Hunter Mountain, for most of the winter, and Sundays were our busy days. I couldn’t take off, because I only worked three days a week, so I did things others do on Sundays on Wednesday/Thursdays.

Now that the weather’s getting nicer again, Sundays are, once again, one of my favorite days of the week. The nice thing about having a 9-5 schedule again is that my days off now match with most of my friends, who live in the traditional job world as well. So, when I want to do a hike, run, see a movie, sky dive, or paddleboard, I’ll have someone to do it with me!

(*cough* you know who you are *cough*)

Not to mention that Sunday morning is when I teach my yoga class, & that brings me joy for the whole week.

How’s your life been intriguing as of late?
